Saskatoon police say an autopsy conducted on human remains found inside a vacant house in Riversdale on Tuesday was completed, but further medical testing by the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service is needed before the identity can be confirmed.

On Tuesday evening, police found human remains in the house in the 400 block in Avenue G South after investigators received information that an injured or dead person could be inside.

The death has been ruled a homicide — the city’s 11th of 2020.

The house was a boarded up property that was the site of an intentionally set fire on Aug. 22. A search of the house found a live cat, but no other occupants, according to a fire department news release at the time.

The investigation is ongoing.
