On its central Facebook page, the company said some of its centres would be reopening in the near future under new ownership, but there has been no indication if this will be the case in Regina.

Laser Quest’s Facebook post was flooded with comments from people sharing childhood memories, as well as parents who were raising a new generation of fans. Some had already paid deposits for future reservations.

Jennifer Bien had put a $200 deposit down on a booking for her son’s sixth birthday party back in March. In April, Bien sent an email requesting to cancel her reservation. The company offered her a free upgrade package if she kept the reservation, and she agreed. She contacted the company again at the end of July, and was told there was a plan to reopen in August.

On Aug. 7, Laser Quest Regina posted on Facebook that it still hoped to reopen in the near future.

Since seeing the news of the closure, Bien has had no luck getting in touch with the company to request a refund. The Regina location’s phone number is no longer in service.

“I find it very frustrating, and $200 isn’t a small deposit. I would have liked to take that money and been able to do something with my son for his birthday or pay for something else,” she said.

Kari-Lyn Nadine Galinèc has found herself in the same situation after she booked a birthday party for her nine-year-old son back in February. Galinèc phoned Laser Quest and was told she could either get her deposit back or wait until they reopened. Galinèc was told Laser Quest would reopen, and that she could make arrangements to rebook her son’s birthday party.

Since news of the closure broke, Galinèc hasn’t been able to reach anyone at the company.

“It’s upsetting that they have to close obviously; I’m going to have a nine-year-old who’s going to be upset about it,” said Galinèc.

The Leader-Post contacted Laser Quest to ask how it would be dealing with deposits that had already been made, but did not receive a response from the company.
