The Saskatoon Police Service is hoping that a constructed image of a woman developed based on DNA phenotyping technology will help it find the mother of an infant whose body was discovered in a downtown recycling bin last fall.
According to an analysis of DNA from the mother, which was found in a bag with the infant, the mother has light brown skin (97.8 per cent confidence), hazel or brown eyes (88.8 per cent confidence), black hair (99.99 per cent confidence), few freckles (67.4 per cent confidence) and primarily is of Indigenous ancestry with smaller genetic contributions from Europe and East Asia.
“Police continue to have concern for the mother and her mental health, and ask anyone with information on her identity or this file, to contact Saskatoon Police,” police said in a news release.
The infant’s body was found Nov. 8, 2019 in a recycling bin in the 400 block of Fifth Avenue North.
“Since that time, police continue to follow up on tips and claims, but the mother has yet to be identified,” police said.
